Introduction
Ken Fujiuchi and Lauren deLaubell
The SUNYLA Information Literacy Committee (SILC) is a subcommittee of SUNYLA librarians that promotes the discussion of information literacy instruction and related topics among librarians in the SUNY system. In 2025, the Advancing AI Literacy Working Group was formed and tasked with the following charge:
- Developing assessable student learning outcomes that align with the Fall 2026 revisions to the SUNY General Education Information Literacy Competency and other curricula.
- Developing a collection of curated and original instruction activities aligned with existing information and AI literacy frameworks.
- Promoting conversations and resources about information and AI literacy across SUNY, among librarians, and beyond.
This resource is intended to disseminate the first phase of the working group’s efforts, including:
- A collection of published frameworks for AI literacy (Chapter 2);
- Recommended student learning outcomes (Chapter 3); and
- Source list of student learning outcomes (Chapter 4).
As of this writing, the working group is in the process of collecting lesson plans that promote AI literacy within the broader context of information literacy. When completed, these works will be disseminated in an OER repository by SILC.
